The Ojai Story
Ojai, California is situated in the picturesque Ojai Valley, located northwest of Los Angeles and east of Santa Barbara. Although the valley is expansive, the majority of its residents prefer to remain within its confines. This poses a significant challenge for accessing the mikvah, particularly since the nearest one is in Camarillo, nearly an hour’s drive each way.
The Ojai area is home to approximately 600 Jewish families, and this number is steadily increasing as individuals are priced out of the larger Los Angeles area. The real estate market here offers more affordable options. However, encouraging families to engage in taharas hamishpacha has proven difficult due to the extensive travel required. To address this issue, Mikvah USA is collaborating closely with Rabbi and Rebbetzin Nemtzov of Ojai to establish a modern and beautiful mikvah that will appeal to the local community.
