The Norfolk Story
Norfolk and nearby Virginia Beach are Virginia’s two most populous cities, encompassing a small but cohesive Jewish population – with a particularly large population of Baalei Teshuva and potential Baalei Teshuva. Norfolk has a full Orthodox community infrastructure including a Shul, Eruv, Day School, Yeshiva, Kollel and kosher food. Unfortunately, the local mikvah – built in 1950 – is in dire shape. This makes taharah very difficult and severely limits the ability to attract additional locals towards observance. Mikvah USA is working hand in hand with local community leaders to build a beautiful, comfortable and mehudar local mikvah – which is sure to help Yiddishkeit in the Norfolk region continue to blossom.
