The Elkins Park Story
This highly affordable Philadelphia suburb, near Jewish educational institutions, kosher food and economic opportunity now has over seventy five families affiliated with the local Young Israel. The distance to the nearest mikvah was challenging for many locals, particularly those in various stages of kiruv. A common predicament was the one faced by those who wanted to keep taharah but were tempted to drive to the mikvah on Shabbos and Yom Tov – or skip. The new mikvah’s pleasantness and accessible location have significantly improved the landscape of taharah and kiruv in this growing community.
