The Durham Story
Chabad of Durham Region is actively developing a new facility that will include a Mikvah. This development is crucial as many locals currently undertake the long journey to the Mikvah in Toronto, which has become a significant obstacle for them. The closest Mikvah is in Markham, typically a 40-minute drive without traffic, but this journey can extend to 1.5 to 2 hours during peak congestion. As a result, only very few currently make the trip to a Mikvah. Many others have expressed interest in using a local Mikvah if one were available. The demographic is largely composed of young families who find living in Toronto increasingly unaffordable. With commuting by train taking about 45 minutes to reach downtown Toronto, many young families are choosing to settle in our area. This makes the establishment of a local Mikvah even more vital for the community’s needs. With the assistance of Mikvah USA the mikvah will soon become a reality!
