The Canton Story
This quiet Boston suburb has hundreds of Jewish residents, an active Chabad, even a kosher food pantry at a local medical institution, but did not have a mikvah of its own. Canton residents, as well as Jews from throughout the area, would rely upon a small, aging mikvah in a nearby town. Rabbi and Rebbetzin Horowitz reached out to Mikvah USA, stressing how much a beautiful Canton mikvah would enhance – and increase – taharah observance. A Chassidish couple from Brooklyn that frequented Canton, and were shocked that such a community lacked a mikvah, got involved as well and assisted greatly in the fundraising effort.
This team effort, b’ezras Hashem, helped bring this beautiful project to fruition – and the mikvah was warmly welcomed by Jews from throughout the area at an emotional ceremony. At the ceremony, twenty local families undertook to begin observing taharah in honor of the new mikvah; the ripple effects of this movement are still being felt.
