The Berkeley Story
This northern California city is home to the legendary University of California campus bearing its name. Approximately 25,000 Jews reside in the region, largely in affiliation with university life. Despite the city’s strong liberal bent, there has been a respectable Orthodox Jewish presence in Berkeley for decades. Over thirty years ago, a mikvah was built but its condition deteriorated to the point where no “new” mikvah user was even brought there. Mikvah USA helped renovate the plumbing, electrical work, ventilation, security system and more, plus greatly enhance the mikvah’s beauty and pleasantness. Over forty locals have become taharah observant since the renovation was completed!
